Five habits of inspections that build customer trust
Digital inspections work best when they are consistent, visual and honest. Five habits that make customers more comfortable approving the work you recommend.
A digital inspection is a conversation with the customer, even when they are not in the building. These habits make that conversation go well.
1. Inspect every car the same way
Use templates so every vehicle gets the same checks. Consistency is what makes a "good" rating meaningful.
2. Photograph the problem and the context
A close-up of a worn pad is useful; a second photo that shows where it is on the vehicle is better.
3. Rate honestly
Reserve "urgent" for safety and imminent failure. When everything is urgent, nothing is — and customers notice.
4. Write notes for a non-technician
"Front pads at 3 mm, replacement recommended soon" is clearer than a part number. Keep it short and specific.
5. Save what is declined
Declined work is not lost work. Keeping it on the vehicle history lets you bring it up at the next visit without starting over.
